Sikkim is a land of monumental mountains that seem to touch
the sky. The mountains form a part of long and mighty Himalaya.
Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world, crowns the
top with its rugged outline. Sikkim, a state of India, shares
her borders with Tibet to the north, Bhutan to the east and
Nepal to the west. The flora and fauna naturally covers a wide
spectrum as no where else in the world. In such a small area
one can find 400 varieties of flowering plants, orchids and
rhododendrons. Naturalists have listed over 550 species of birds
and over 600 species of butterflies. Animals to be found are
Himalayan bear, musk deer, barking deer, red panda and the blue
sheep. The people of Sikkim are of three distinct heritage.
The Lepchas, Bhutias and the Nepalese. Sikkimese by nature are
simple, polite and non aggressive people with a natural gaiety.
Visa & Permit - All foreign tourist require an Inner Line
Permit (ILP) to enter Sikkim. An ILP is valid for 15 days &
can be extended by the State government twice for 30 days of
15 days each.
Trekking permit are required. Trekking is only allowed in groups
(minimum two persons) and must be arranged through a travel
agent.
